on a previous post mamacita29 pointed up the low quality of new jw converts.. is the quality falling even more as the society use lower than low meeting, talks, broadcasts etc.. when i was active initially the organisation and standards seemed totally different today.

i have seen hard working intelligent elders fall by death or exhaustion.

the younger generation that came along never really grasped responsibility hence shortage of good elders, never mind the watered down to almost nothing quality of meetings.

It was almost 60 years ago that my mom accepted her free home brainwashing sessions. I have to agree with my fellow travelers here of my "generation" that today's JWs seem especially dumb and weak, "un-qualified to be ministers," we might say.

This is the fault of the WTB&TS itself. They built their Watchtower on the sand of false prophecy, fabricating "bible-based" chronology as it suited them, patterning a "New World Society" on the laws of ancient Israel, gleefully ignoring the concept that Jesus came to FULFILL and DO AWAY WITH Mosaic law, drawing goofy conclusions about how THEY fulfilled almost EVERY prophecy ever recorded in the Bible, playing "fill-in-the-blanks" games with their membership, then blaming that membership when the blanks were filled with the conclusions, anticipations, speculations, and expectations that were provided by the WTB&TS in the pages that THEY WROTE. This has been topped off by an "Armageddon is very close but probably won't come in your lifetime" sense of non-urgency. So the time for boring public talks has been reduced, the time for boring meetings has been reduced and the time requirement for boring door-to-door work in the face of an unconcerned public has been reduced. Soon a pioneer will be putting in ten exhausting hours a month.

Back in my day (the old man complained) we may have been WRONG, but we BELIEVED our message and we believed that ours was a life-saving work that was required if we were to save OUR OWN lives. Today, not so much, it seems.

Cue to leave

just reading a thread about one circuit saying the pubs must donate $10.. it got me thinking, that if it ever became policy to donate a % of ones income, that would be my cue to leave.

or i would kick up such a stink about it i would be kicked out.

either would be good for me.. so, is there any public policy changes which would be your cue to leave?.

A few years ago I said about the Memorial, "I can reject the emblems from the comfort of my living room; I don't need to "gather" with others for this."

Do People Have Spirits? What Do the Early Texts Say?

for years adventist sects, including the jws, have believed that the dead sleep at death and remain non-existent until the resurrection.

its strongest argument seems to be text in the non-escchatological book of ecclesiastes in the old testament.

although a part of the canon of scripture, the book is not written by a prophet, nor is there any prophecy or recognizable doctrine contained therein.

I was associated with the Dubs from the late 1950s when my mom had her free home brainwashing sessions until the mid 1970s, when I left my mom's home and, soon after that, left the JWs for good.

There used to be a part of the TMS that was reading through the Bible, end-to-end, not even skipping the "begats." (That was tedious!)

When we finally got to Ecclesiastes I thought to myself, "AHA! Now THIS is TRUTH!"

The comment "Atheists shut out things they can't understand, or don't want to understand" has it backwards.

There is no spirit realm containing any kind of sentient life, and there is no such thing as the soul. We are made of meat, and WE ARE DELICIOUS!

i have been lurking for years on this site and others but never had the courage to post anything.

actually i was afraid of posting on an apostate site in the event i was wrong.

Is your elder husband aware that the WTB&TS has said "OK" to the use of Hemopure, which is made from cow's blood? (The Watchtower, June 15, 2000 said "...when it comes to fractions of any of the primary components, each Christian, after careful and prayerful meditation, must conscientiously decide for himself." pages 29-31.) Does he think that people should be reported for conscientiously making decisions for themselves, or does making decisions for yourself mean you still have to do what Sister EasilyStumbled thinks is right? Your Hubby must not be keeping up with Jehovah's chariot.
"My husband said they will remove him as an elder if I do not begin to go to meetings. Is that true?" I think is is. Does your Husband feel it is fair for him to be punished for your lack of energy?
As ScenicViewer suggested, maybe you have fibromyalgia. Maybe you are beginning to feel the burden of aging in this old system of things. Is it a sin to be ill and low energy? Maybe you've been a little depressed lately. Maybe you've got a touch of arthritis. You know the only prescription is Jehovah's Marvellous Free-Lunch Picnic in Paradise, and you can't wait!
A few years ago one of the members here was asked "Do you still believe this is Jehovah's organisation?" His reply was, "Oh yes, I do... I'm just not sure God exists." They left him alone. I'm not suggesting that you say this, but it shows you how Jehovah's Magic Spirit makes one wise.

Rebel8's advice is excellent! Keep thanking them for taking such loving concern for you and that you know how busy they are, etc. This is known as "Blowing smoke up their ass." Elders are vain and adore flattery.
